Being uncomfortable allows you to grow into someone you weren’t before, and that’s good.
According to dictionary.com, discomfort is “an absence of comfort or ease. It can come from uneasiness, hardship or mild pain.” In other words, it can be physical, mental, emotional or even spiritual.
Getting too comfortable can cause you to do things that you never thought you would.
For example, if you’re in a place that you don’t know you are most likely going to look after your things with a lot more care. You don’t know if you can trust people, if you are in a safe area or if what you’re doing or saying will offend someone. You are careful with your actions.
However, when you are comfortable you have a tendency to not even care. You will leave your valuables on a table to go to the bathroom if you know that someone won’t steal them. You will talk without thinking about what you’re saying because you know that others will understand you. You also have a tendency to not care about what you do, you can wear what you want, be who you want to be, say what you want to say, go where you want to go all because you’re comfortable.
God wants us to seek comfort in Him.
If you seek comfort in Him you will trust that He will take care of you, you will know the right thing to say, and the right thing to do. You can confide in Him and find wisdom, peace and purpose in Him.
He is faithful and will provide you with what you need.
It’s really beautiful to know that God wants us to seek Him, but it’s sometimes really hard. I definitely have struggled, and am still struggling to really give my everything to God.
He’s been really gnawing away at my worldly comfort rope. He wants me to know that I should only anchor myself to Him because this world offers comfort in the worst ways. We can’t trust it.
Once you start gaining comfort in a new location is usually when the worst happens.
I travel and know many that love to travel also. One of my friends was in Chile for a while and the moment she started feeling comfortable, she got her laptop stolen from her. I have another who had the same thing happen in Spain with his iPhone.
It’s not only in materialistic things that can be robbed from us. It can be our love, our time, our hope, our joy.
The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. He wants us to find comfort in the world so that he can easily rip everything from us. We won’t expect it because we feel comfortable.
If we find comfort in the world when it turns into something we didn’t think it would it causes us pain, hurt, anxiety and every form of discomfort. It’s really when we are at our weakest.
If we find comfort in the Lord He will come and lift us up. At our weakest, God will do so many things with you, to make you stronger, wiser, and give you peace. He wants to:
- Remold you
- Teach you new things
- Transform you
- Give you purpose
- Provide you comfort
If you’re uncomfortable, things will change until you are comfortable once again. Let God give you that comfort.
